– Infection rates in Bergen have increased dramatically in the last two weeks. Most of those infected have associated with the student community, Councilor Roger Valhammer (Labor Party) said at a news conference Tuesday night.
He presented today’s recent figures: 42 people have been registered infected in the last 24 hours. Thus, a total of 1028 are infected in the city.
These are the measurements
At the press conference, Valhammer also presented a number of new measures to overcome the dramatic development:
- Private gatherings of more than ten people are prohibited, instead of 20
- Public events with more than 50 people are prohibited, instead of 200
- The nightclub, bars and restaurants are now required to maintain lists of all visitors.
- Visiting rules in hospitals and health organizations are tightened
- Internships for students in Bergen municipal services will be postponed while new regulations apply
A recommendation is also introduced to use bandages in public transport in congestion situations where the subway rule cannot be followed. This does not apply to children.
The regulations with the new measures will be valid for ten days, until September 18, said the leader of the city council.

– Exponential increase
Health Minister Beate Husa (KrF) was also present during the press conference. She said the Bergen municipality now sees an “exponential increase” in the number of infection cases.
– We see that we now have the highest number of new infections in the city since the pandemic began, he said.
Husa added that today’s infection rates exceed those we saw in March, when the pandemic occurred in Norway as a whole.
“The increased spread also increases the risk that more people will develop serious diseases and die from corona,” he said.
Husa believes that it is now more important than ever for people to follow infection control measures.
– I understand that what is coming today may be demanding for many. At the same time, we believe that these are the appropriate measures at this time, and we have good support from the National Institute of Public Health, the health council said.
Municipal employees who may have a home office are also encouraged to use it for the next ten days.
