Now there are a surprising number of mice in eastern Norway. The investigator asks people to take care of the cabins and houses if they are afraid to enter.

The mouse population has increased during the summer. Jørund Rolstad reports to forskning.no.

Rolstad is a researcher and works at the Norwegian Bioeconomy Institute (NIBIO).

He says that the population in eastern Norway has increased considerably from a spring with a tiny mouse. The rest of the country is unlikely to have a peak year for small rodents. But it may come next year.

– In Finnskogen, where I do research, there are many mice. But further north, towards Trysil, not much progress has yet been made, he says.

Ask people to pay attention

According to forskning.no, it follows the development of the museum every year. Now she encourages people to be a little more vigilant in the coming months, especially if they are afraid of having too many mice in the cabins and houses.

– It’s probably in central Eastern Norway where there are more now, he says.

Rolstad is surprised how fast he has gone. When he counted mice in the forest this spring, he found almost nothing.

Climbing mice and wood mice

The NIBIO researcher tells forskning.no that there are especially many climbing mice. But he has also observed a good number of forest mice. The latter eats seeds and can be glad that there were a lot of cones.

Both climbing and woodland mice can move into huts and houses.

– If there is a lot of snow, under which the mouse can be brought home for the winter, we may have even more mice next year, warns Rolstad.
