The mayor was “secretly vaccinated” – he made more people react – VG

HEALTH ON FACEBOOK: – It is completely inexperienced to post something like that. At the same time, I think we should be responsible for what we have done, recently vaccinated mayor of Volda told VG Sølvi Dimmen. Photo: PRIVATE

When Volda’s vaccination team had four doses left at the end of the day, they went to the town hall and vaccinated Mayor Sølvi Dimmen (Sp). She was not on the priority list.

Published:

The doses of the vaccine had already been withdrawn and therefore had to be used within one hour.

Instead of calling someone on the priority list, vaccine coordinator Toril Høydal made the short trip from Samfunnshuset to the town hall and vaccinated the first people she found.

Among them was Mayor Sølvi Dimmen, who was not on the list. She updated her Facebook followers on the status of the vaccine and was met with allegations of poor judgment, something picked up by the Nernett student newspaper.

– It was at the end of the day and we had been vaccinated for several hours. I thought people should get home after work and wanted to get vaccinated quickly, Høydal told the newspaper when confronted with the reactions.

FHI chief physician Preben Aavitsland was one of those who reacted.

He first told Nervett that the vaccine team at Volda had violated FHI guidelines. Later he was moderator.

– We understand that one in the municipalities must make quick decisions if there is a risk of having to throw away doses. In this case, it was better to vaccinate someone than to discard the doses, Aavitsland tells NRK.

To VG on Thursday night he says:

– We do not believe that the rapporteur jumped on the queue. They offered him the vaccine and he accepted it. It was good that the municipality did not throw away the doses, but they should have found some people in the priority groups to vaccinate, not random employees in the City Hall.

He says municipalities should organize reserve lists and call additional people for vaccination at the end of the day if any of the summoned people do not show up for vaccination.

– It can be, for example, health personnel or elderly people who live near the place of vaccination. Our impression is that municipalities are doing well, says Aavitsland.

– The case is inflated

According to the vaccine coordinator, Høydal, it was completely a coincidence that the mayor was vaccinated.

On Monday, the vaccination team, as the procedure says, had called the name of the priority list to fill the places of those summoned who did not appear. The precision allowed them to take more doses than expected. Therefore, he left with four additional doses at 3.15pm.

– I think the case is inflated. We have set a thousand doses and this applied to four, Høydal tells VG.

– The doses had been prepared and had a shelf life of one hour. Several of those on the reserve list live, so they must take the ferry. I saw it as a choice between throwing away the doses or having all of them used. I saw it as more important to use them.

Surprised mayor

Mayor Sølvi Dimmen (Sp) was confused and laughing when VG spoke to her on Thursday night. On the reactions that followed, he says:

– I was a bit surprised, I must say. We must have good routines and vaccinate those who have them. And to put it this way: the queue was long in front of me, Dimmen tells VG.

– Have you said yes to the vaccine again if asked tomorrow?

– It was a situation that came to us. We have been through our routines and have gained an experience where we lost the number.

– Prone to conspiracy

The mayor says she received the AstraZeneca vaccine, which Norway and Denmark stopped using on Thursday after reports of blood clots.

– So I have been exposed to a conspiracy! Someone desperately wanted me, says Dimmen with a laugh.

– Have you noticed any side effects?

There is a kind of howl on the other end of the phone.

– Oh gurimalla! Now my office chair fell apart. Here the ground disappeared beneath me, the mayor gasping before recounting a “strange headache.”

– I have migraines and tension headaches, but this was a guy I had never met before. Tuesday and Wednesday I felt like I was in a bubble, but I went to work.

– Should I have agreed to get vaccinated?

– Priority should not be given to a rapporteur. If there had been more people to take off, I would not have said yes. I was going to an important meeting the next day and was afraid of getting sick, Dimmen responds.

– But I felt a little duty to defend the community.
