The Labor Party municipal council group held a meeting on Monday to discuss the Arctic Center case and is now submitting a recommendation to the supervisory board meeting on Thursday. The scenario is twofold.
The majority propose that the zoning plan be rejected, while the minority propose that the zoning plan be returned to incorporate new guidelines and guidelines to improve the plan.
“This means, among other things, that the project will be carried out as a fossil-free construction site, law enforcement needs to be improved and the consequences of interventions in peatlands better investigated. The arrangement for the water and sewerage must also be prepared, ”said a press release sent by the Labor Party immediately after today’s meeting.
“Fair” to include the minority
– Didn’t you get the whole group to get behind the scenes?
– The majority in the municipal council group is in favor of rejecting the plan, but we think it is difficult to say what the majority in the party thinks. So we think it is “fair” that we also have a minority attitude. The alternative would be for us to reject the plan, period. But there are many who also want us to work for an intermediate solution, so we think it is right that we send both recommendations, responds Tone Marie Myklevoll, vice-leader of the Labor Party municipal leadership group and leader of the municipal and urban development committee.
At the meeting, which was conducted digitally, the entire Labor Party municipal leadership group was present, as well as three representatives from the Tromsø Labor Party and a representative from the AUF. Mayor Gunnar Wilhelmsen is incompetent and was not present.
Myklevoll does not want to reveal how many people voted with the majority or the minority.
– The speaker did not argue
The Arctic Center case has been demanding for the Labor Party.
In Tromsø last weekend, it was revealed how Mayor Gunnar Wilhelmsen scolded the city council group for the Labor Party, after they said no to the Arctic Center at the city council in April. Wilhelmsen and his brother are majority owners in the Arctic Center and consequently he is incompetent in the case.
The mayor apologized for the behavior in the presidency last week.
The case is now being reexamined because the majority of the city council felt that a procedural error had occurred the first time the case was brought up for consideration.
Myklevoll denies that Mayor Gunnar Wilhelmsen was the subject of the meeting. When asked if the mayor’s involvement in the case was discussed, she responds in cash “no.”
– Has it been difficult to make a recommendation in a case where the mayor, who is also incompetent, has so clearly expressed his views?
– No. We just talked about it. There are many things to discuss in it to put it that way. We have worked the case based on the content it has. We have also tried to take into account all the input that we have received from the members meeting, in which we have really spent our time reviewing them, says Myklevoll.
The Supervisory Board decides the case
The digital meeting lasted more than two hours on Monday afternoon.
– For my part, I hope to receive the consideration of the case by the supervisory board and move forward. After all, it is a simple zoning plan among many other plans and other important issues that we are working on. You may have received undeserved attention. I look forward to whatever we land on. When they’ve finished their treatment, we’ve at least treated this case very thoroughly and adequately, Myklevoll says.
On Thursday, an oversight board of the Tromsø Labor Party will consider the Arctic Center case and the group’s recommendations for the case. The municipal council group will support the decision of the supervisory board in the event that the case is considered by the municipal council.
