Mustafa Hasan (18) had been set as a departure deadline of December 7, after spending 13 years in Norway. The deadline has been postponed until December 28. The new date for Christmas is inappropriate, according to his lawyer Nicolai Skjerdal.

– Mustafa is relieved not to have to think about the date of December 7, but at the same time the postponement is so short that the case still depends a lot on him, says lawyer Nicolai Skjerdal to VG.

After 13 years in Norway, Mustafa Hasan received a final decision in November from the Board of Immigration Appeals that he is no longer allowed to stay in the country where he has lived since he was six years old.

Hasan’s lawyer, Skjerdal, says they have submitted a request for a postponement of the departure deadline, as according to Skjerdal, Hasan cannot leave the country before December 7.

This has now been maintained.

– The situation is that Mustafa does not even have a Jordanian passport and does not enter the country. Also, there are no planes and the country is the most affected by the crown in Asia, says Skjerdal.

The exit deadline has been postponed until December 28.

– We are happy to release it on December 7th, because it is early, but having said that, then we have been given a new deadline during the Christmas season, and that is inappropriate in my opinion, says Skjerdal.

On Monday, Skjerdal announced that they would be suing the state.

– We will sue the state before the UNE and at the same time we will present a request for temporary residence while we have an ongoing legal dispute. Hasan must fight his case from Norway, Skjerdal told VG.

The lawyer questions whether Hasan’s case has received adequate treatment.

– We strongly believe that Mustafa Hasan meets the criteria established by the Immigration Law for residence in Norway on humanitarian grounds.
