Melkebonden, who is also a county leader in the Akershus Farmers Association, is among 46 people who were evacuated on New Year’s Eve after there were reports of new cracks in the ground in Gjerdrum, this time a few kilometers away. north of Ask where the large landslide occurred overnight through Wednesday.

– We have been evacuated now, yes, says Kogstad by phone to NTB from a hotel in Gardermoen.

– I had to take care of the animals before I left. There are 300 head of cattle on the farm, so they shouldn’t just be taken with them, he adds, and hopes to be allowed to return on Friday for further care.

He says the farm is a modern dairy farm that is vulnerable if electricity and water are lost, and he hopes the farm will not be affected if there is a landslide. Kogstad says the cracks tested in the ground are some distance from the farm buildings.

Kogstad notes that the situation is much more dire for evacuated farms that are directly affected by the landslide further south in Ask. There are 1,500 pigs and 200 cattle almost trapped and with significant challenges related to water, electricity and care. The night before Thursday, the farmers were transferred by the emergency services so that they could take care of the animals, but Kogstad describes the situation as dramatic.

– Today we have worked with the possibility of evacuating the animals, but it is not very easy to achieve, he says.
