The outbreak in Hadsel and Andøy probably dates back to traveling to southern Norway. However, Søring’s quarantine is not relevant.
On Monday, four other people were confirmed infected with the coronavirus in Hadsel Township. In addition, the municipality has identified three people who are likely infected.
This means that the total number as of Thursday is 14.
– It is very positive that there are no more positive tests, and it is very positive that those that do follow known lines of contagion. It is going in the right direction, says municipal chief doctor Ingebjørn Bleidvin to VG.
He does not dare to say that they are in control of the situation, although the number of infected is decreasing.
– All the time that we have new infected people who in turn have new close contacts who are not yet in quarantine, we cannot claim that we are in control. We also have 50 tests that we are waiting for answers for tomorrow, and we must be prepared that there may be surprises there.
All four new positive cases have been proven through rapid tests and all may be related to the outbreak that was revealed earlier this week.
– We have received the results of the rapid tests we used this weekend and they show that the seven that tested positive this weekend were also positive today. 19 of them were negative and only one was false positive, says infection control doctor Martin Larsen Drageset.

– Our theory is that the infection entered the first group through one of the two visits to southern Norway. Then it has spread to a company, then to families and schools. So far, all cases are in known infection chains, Bleidvin tells VG.
Are you considering quarantining Søring?
– Not in any way. They were two completely normal, legal and defensible trips. Søring’s quarantine only made sense this spring, as there was virtually no infection here, and a lot of infection, especially in Oslo.
– Then we tried to postpone the arrival of the virus until we could have enough infection control and test equipment, and be able to handle the arrival of the virus, says the municipal chief.
He says they now have the necessary equipment and are much better than they were then.
– It’s easy to forget now that we are talking about massive testing that this spring there was a strict restriction on testing.

– Now we can handle outbreaks and coronary diseases much more, and there are infections around us in the other northern municipalities. It can go anywhere, anytime, as it did here, Bleidvin emphasizes.

In Hadsel, around 420 of the township’s total 8,000 residents are now in quarantine.

Among the measures is the complete closure of the Melbu school.
– It is especially sad that it goes beyond children. They have paid more than enough of the price for these infection control measures, so it is always very sad to propose measures that go beyond children and young people.
– But there was a specific infection associated with this school here, so there really was no way around it.
