Christmas gifts with a large price difference have created a debate among Health Central Norway employees in recent days.
The staff at Møre og Romsdal hospital were satisfied with the hat they received as a Christmas gift, until they discovered what their colleagues at St. Olav Hospital had received: a NOK 1,000 gift card.
«We lived with hua in hand, but we had such strong faith»He says in« Nordnorsk julesalme ».
But not all tones are equally musical.
The debate took on a severe tone when Helse Møre og Romsdal employees discovered the difference in price of gifts. Egil Romslo Schistad from Ålesund Hospital says that this is all not musical.
He won’t stand with a hat in his hand
The hat for the hospital staff on Møre og Romsdal symbolizes something bigger. An economic dispute that has been developing for several years.
It is the distribution of money, internally at Health Central Norway, that is the basis of the ongoing dispute.
Helse Møre og Romsdal employees are so concerned about the planned cuts that they created an action group on Facebook.
The chief physician of the section, Åse Turid Rossevatn Svoren from the Ålesund maternity ward, wishes a fair distribution of the health crowns for the coming year and shared a photo with his colleagues, where they are wearing hats.
– It was an absolutely huge response. We stick together even if we feel like you’ve been biased for many years. The hospital gang has a positive attitude to do the best they can with the funds we have, he tells NRK.
Ho held fram:
– We don’t want to keep a hat in hand. We take it easy, proud to be part of a team committed to providing good medical care to patients.
Economic Dragon Fight
There is a tug of war in the regional health authority on how NOK 300 million should be distributed. The decision will be made at the Health Central Norway board meeting in February.
Now there are several Christmas gifts that generate reactions. It is up to a quarter of health trusts how much they want to give their employees as a Christmas gift and whether they choose to do so.
Hospital Director Grethe Aasved of St. Olav Hospital stressed that it was important to give them extraordinary recognition in this special crown year.
– Employees have not been to courses or conferences this year. It gave us a financial leeway.
Marit Røsand has been seriously ill with cancer and has been admitted to St. Olav and Ålesund Hospitals. She is upset about the uneven distribution among the health trusts and believes that the Christmas gift at Møre og Romsdal was a mockery.
– I’m pissed off, I can’t express myself softer. Here we have come out and we have cheered and applauded them. Then they will keep a hat, while the others will receive gift cards worth a thousand crowns.
– Not us who sit on the money bag
Gro Lillebø is a shop steward for the Norwegian Nurses Association at St. Olav Hospital. In 2019, he wrote a column stating that the economy at Health Central Norway is very demanding.
– When ambitious politicians do us many tasks that we must solve for the population, they must be aware that it costs money to provide good health service.
The unequal economic distribution in the regional health company is significant. Lillebø wants the national authorities to act.
– It’s frustrating. It is easy to introduce these problems into the system. Then one ends up with internal stabbing. But we are not the ones sitting on the money bag, he says.
She comments on the Christmas gift debate among hospital employees at Central Norway Health as follows:
– Our hospital director in St. Olav has argued that money has been saved in 2020 by not traveling to courses and conferences. I think Helse Møre og Romsdal and other health trusts have saved money on this too.
First year with benefit
2020 is the first year Helse Møre og Romsdal has risen since the Trust in Health was established. Now they are in a situation of great need to update the necessary medical-technical equipment in the hospital. The health fund faces a restructuring requirement of approximately NOK 500 million over the next five years.
Health Central Norway does not wish to comment on the case. They refer to the ongoing case processing of income distribution.
