– We fear that our Norwegian ribs will run out before Christmas, Bård Gultvedt, director of trade policy and government contact at Norgesgruppen, tells Nettavisen.

Both meat producers Fatland and Nortura say more has had to be imported this year as a result of the pandemic.

“Since the corona pandemic has lasted over time, several ribs, which normally would have been frozen earlier, have been used for the production of bacon and grilled ribs earlier this year,” says Ole Nikolai Skulberg, director of Totalmarked in Nortura.

Gultvedt at Norgesgruppen says stores now fear a Norwegian pork shortage well into 2021, a fear shared by Coop Norge.

– Lower pork production is planned, and if the market regulator does not act quickly, we fear a shortage of Norwegian products in the future, says communications manager Harald Kristiansen.
