Ten municipalities in Vestfold and Telemark will have to live with the strictest level of measures for a while longer.

That’s after FHI and the Norwegian Health Directorate gave their professional advice today.

Both the NIPH and the Norwegian Directorate of Health recommended that the strictest level of measures (5A) be maintained for Holmestrand, Horten, Tønsberg, Færder, Sandefjord and Larvik until 11 April.

– The situation is unstable and the British variant of the virus has been detected in 84 percent of positive tests, notes the Norwegian Health Directorate.

They also recommended continuing the stricter level (5A) for the Grenland municipalities of Bamble, Porsgrunn, Skien and Siljan until April 8.

And so it will be.

  • What is level 5A? Measures at the strictest level mean, among other things, that stores and department stores must be closed and restaurants must be closed to anything other than takeout. Find the measures for your municipality in the VG measures summary.

Here you can see how the infection in Vestfold and Telemark increased dramatically, before it started to decrease:

– These ten municipalities want the government to continue measuring level A, which is the strictest level of measurement we have. The Norwegian Directorate of Health and the NIPH support this wish. Therefore, the government is extending the measures, the government writes in a press release.

The Grenland area will have an opening

FHI notes that Grenland-area municipalities want to return to level 5B if the downward trend continues during Easter. In 5B, for example, they can open shops and restaurants (without serving alcohol).

FHI still recommends keeping the Grenland area at 5A, the strictest.

– But we recommend that a new assessment be made of the need for national regulation and the proportionality of the measures with a possible downgrade on April 7, writes FHI on the Grenland municipalities.

– The Norwegian Health Directorate points out that the measures in accordance with chapter 5A of the covid-19 regulation have proven to be adequate to reduce outbreaks with the English variant, and considers that the level of the measures is proportionate and necessary for municipalities with a duration as described, they write.
