Overnight to Wednesday, a large landslide occurred in a residential area of Ask in the municipality of Gjerdrum. The couple Anna and Jørgen Sandman were among those rescued from the area.
They were evacuated by helicopter, but the Zajka family dog was not allowed to join; people had to be given priority.
– When I realized that Zajka couldn’t be with us in the helicopter, it was a shock. So I thought I hope he fixes it, Anna Sandman told NRK on Wednesday.
A few meters from being taken by the landslide: – The road cracked in front of us
– Fantastic
From night to Thursday the news came that a dog had been rescued from the scene of the accident. Around 02:00, the director of operations in the eastern police district, Karianne Knudsen, told Dagbladet that she had been found via drone.
The dog was found in the so-called red zone and recovered at 0140, using a helicopter.
– The dog is safe, he said.
The dog is Zajka’s ten-year-old Dalmatian, writes NRK. Sandman tells the state channel that the dog is in good shape, but has a leg injury and is supervised by a veterinarian.
– Of course, it was absolutely fantastic to receive that message tonight. We have been very nervous and we seemed to be hoping for a miracle to happen. Luck has been with us today, even though we lost everything we possess in the landslide, Sandman writes in a text message to Dagbladet.
Tomorrow they will meet again with their “last member of the family.”
– We couldn’t have been happier and look forward to incredibly much.

Operations manager Knudsen also said drones and helicopters are still registering at the site. Work is still being done to clarify when a dog and dog handler will be sent to the area, he said.
At 02:00, ten people remained unaccounted for after the landslide.
The Gjerdrum church will keep the village gates open in the coming days for those who miss someone after the Ask night landslide until Wednesday.
Parish priest Jakob Furuseth claims that the church in Gjerdrum will be open, and that the rector will ensure that priests are available for those in need, both with the evacuees in the hotels and in the open church.
The municipality of Gjerdrum has already established a family center at the Clarion Hotel and Congress Center in Gardermoen. This is intended as an offer for those who miss someone in connection with the landslide.
