The Gjerdrum landslide: – One person confirmed dead

In a press conference on Friday the 15th, task leader Roy Alkvist claims that a person was found in the landslide in Gjerdrum.

This person has been confirmed dead.

The task leader does not want to enter the gender or age of the deceased. Family members have not yet been informed, but the police are said to be working on it.

– The discovery was made in connection with the search that was carried out among the remains, says Alkvist.

During the press conference, it was further said that the search will continue throughout the night.

– We will continue conducting searches. Things like lighting can limit it, but we’ll go further.

The health service claims that they are now working to recover the person who has been confirmed dead.

The health service further states that they still have hope and faith in finding survivors in the landslide.

Nine people were missing

After one person was found dead, nine disappeared after the landslide.

An air ambulance passed over the landslide area in Gjerdrum this afternoon, and the Dagbladet photographer at the scene also reports increased activity in the area. Photos from the site also show that there is an ambulance at the scene.

Police claim this is related to the discovery that has been made and that this activity will continue.

At 12 am today, the Police announced that the search is underway in the red zone of the landslide area.

– We are with USAR crews, we have police dogs inside and we have a support apparatus in relation to taking the crew out if something happens, Alkvist said.

He then reported that there are still landslides at the top of the landslide area.

– Obviously, it involves a risk for those who work there, but at the same time it also provides some relief in relation to the pressure on the fast cutting edge.

In the morning, it was announced that Sweden’s fire, health, police and USAR teams are involved in the operation. The Swedish relief team has special experience with collapsed buildings and infrastructure, writes NTB.

It was on Thursday that the rescue team first entered the landslide area to conduct a search of two houses with a dog patrol.
