The flight’s stopover will last until December 30.

The flight stop can still be continued until after the New Year.

The decision is made after a general assessment of infection situations, says the Ministry of Health and Care Services in a press release. The stop on direct flights is maintained to prevent the spread of the new variant of the virus discovered in the United Kingdom.

– It is still necessary to maintain the measures so that we buy time to prevent a possible spread of the virus in Norway. As the situation is now, we do not have the ability to track and control all travelers who would come from the UK to Norway by ordinary air traffic, says Minister of Health and Care Services Bent Høie (H).

– It could lead to a lack of control over the spread of the new variant of the virus, significantly more contagious, says Høie.

In their recommendation, the Norwegian Health Directorate has noted that the routines and capacity that will be required when we reopen regular flights from the UK have not yet been established.
