The Fagereng Tragedy in Abandoned Tromsø: –

In the late afternoon of Monday, December 2 last year, the police were notified that a stroller was parked at Fagereng in Tromsøya. From the stroller, the tracks went down to the water.

At sea, emergency services found a 27-year-old woman and her three daughters.

Both the mother and two of the daughters, aged four and seven, died, while the daughter, who was then one and a half years old, survived. After her death, the mother was charged with murder and attempted murder of the children.

– The police investigation has given the prosecution a basis to establish that she killed two of her children and tried to kill the third. The Attorney General has dropped the case because the defendant is dead, police wrote in a press release on Friday.

– Very thankful

The children’s father’s attendance attorney, Erik Ringberg, tells Dagbladet that both he and the client were prepared for the closure to be the result.

– As long as the perpetrator is dead, it is a natural result. I’ve prepared him for it all the time, says Ringberg.

Ringberg says the children’s father is happy that the police have thoroughly investigated the case and therefore excluded him entirely.

– Of course it’s important to him. In such cases, it is the case that one thinks that the spouse may have something to do with it. He is very grateful that the police have deviated and examined him.

Half a year in the hospital

The youngest girl was found with her sisters in the water eight to ten meters from land and was flown to a hospital in Oslo. She remained in the hospital until this summer, with training and close monitoring, Ringberg says.

– Depending on the conditions, things are going as well as they can. Kindergarten started in August. The father is incredibly grateful for the efforts that everyone at the hospital has made for his daughter. He appreciates this immensely.

The father and daughter have chosen to live in Tromsø and have settled in a new home. The father has also returned to work.

– They have started a new chapter and are trying to get back to having a life as normal as possible, says Ringberg.

– It means a lot

The case has affected the local Tromsø community, and after the tragedy fundraising for the father and daughter began.

– This has meant that he and his daughter have established themselves well in Tromsø, so the money has been useful to them in the difficult situation they have been through. He is very happy that the people of Tromsø called and showed them affection. That means a lot, says the assistant attorney.

The children’s father arrived in Norway in 2015 and the mother arrived in 2017 after applying for family reunification. The family of five lived in a house in Tromsø. The father was at work, the mother was associated with an introductory program in the municipality, and the children went to school and kindergarten.
