ULLEVÅL HOSPITAL (Dagbladet): Dagbladet meets with the director of the National Institute of Public Health (FHI), Camilla Stoltenberg, and the managing director of Pfizer Norway, Sissel Lønning Andresen, outside the Ullevål hospital in Oslo on Christmas Day.
Just after 9 a.m. on Saturday, a modest van with a police escort entered the hospital square.
On the inside, Norway’s newest weapon in the fight against infections was: the Pfizer / BioNTech corona vaccine.
– This is a very important day for Norway and I am glad that we received the vaccine, Stoltenberg tells Dagbladet.
The truck contained 9,750 doses of the vaccine.
Implemented in eastern Norway
The first doses of vaccine go to seven municipalities in eastern Norway: Oslo, Fredrikstad, Ringsaker, Sarpsborg, Hamar, Stange and Hvaler. Nursing home residents have first priority.
For logistical reasons, it was clear from the start that the municipality of Oslo could start vaccination this Christmas.
– The first vaccine can be given tomorrow, says Stoltenberg.
The next delivery to Norway will be on December 28. In total, just under 35,000 doses will arrive in Norway before the New Year. Then there will be a weekly delivery of about 40,000 doses.
They will be distributed to all the municipalities of the country that are prepared for it, according to population and a specific order of priority.
– Formidable effort
Pfizer Norway CEO Sissel Lønning Andresen also describes the day as an important milestone in the fight against the virus.
– This is a great day on behalf of all those who work with research and science to improve people’s lives, and now we are one step closer to winning the battle against the virus, Andresen tells Dagbladet.
– What effort is behind the vaccine development work?
– There is a formidable effort behind the work, and I am very proud on behalf of all those who have contributed to achieving this result.
More approvals around the corner
In addition to the vaccine from Pfizer and BioNTech, after all the sun brands, vaccines from other manufacturers will soon also come.
The next vaccine request, from the pharmaceutical manufacturer Moderna, will be processed by the European Medicines Agency (EMA) on January 6.
The four candidate vaccines for Oxford / AstraZeneca, Curevac, Sanofi / GSK and Johnson & Johnson also have an agreement through the EU / EEA, but require approval before they can be used in Norway.
Dagbladet updates the case.
