GJERDRUM (VG) The rescue operation continues Monday morning in full force. All cavities must be scanned.

Published:

This was stated by the medical director of health resources, Halvard Stave, at the scene Monday morning.

So far, seven people have been found dead after the landslide that occurred on Wednesday in Ask last week in the Romerike municipality of Gjerdrum. Five of them have been identified.

No new discoveries have been made overnight. Crews were replaced and a break was taken from actively searching for the crash site.

– Dogs should also rest, and the image of odors should be restored so that there are not many annoying odors, says task manager Roger Pettersen in the police.

Three people are still missing and Pettersen repeated Monday that they are looking for survivors.

– The cold, of course, is working against us. But we have been very clear in the advice we have given to the police and firefighters that as long as there are cavities available in landslides in places where the missing may have remained, it is possible to survive. Therefore, we must be absolutely certain that all relevant cavities have been scanned before the end of the effort. So there is still total pressure, Health Resources Medical Manager Halvard Stave says on the site Monday morning.

Search where the dogs have marked

The last 24 hours have been significantly colder.

When asked by the press about how the cold affects work, Police Task Chief Roger Pettersen replies that the cold in a landslide like this does not help to stabilize it significantly. However, the police still describe it as a rescue operation and have not given up hope of finding survivors.

However, the same amount of resources as before working in the area:

– We have four USAR teams walking and working according to where the dogs have marked. We get assistance from the military and the Delta group, says Morten Thoresen, operations manager at the fire service.

– We will work a little in cavities and in the masses of the building where the dogs have marked.

The leader of the task, Pettersen, explains that they are searching an area where there are many remains of the houses that were taken over by the landslide.

– This means that we believe and see that there are air pockets in that area. The total area is large and there are many places that we have not started looking. So it’s a formidable job ahead of us as well if we want to change our focus, but for now the focus is where we have the rescue team, he says.

– Demanding

Pettersen is clear that the rescue operation has been demanding for those involved:

– It is demanding physically, of course mentally and, but we have a good follow-up offer. These are professional players and we focus on allocation, he tells VG.

– What can you say about the electronic tracks?

– I do not want to say anything about it, there are other professional circles in the police that handle it, says Pettersen, who does not want to enter if they have received some kind of sign of life from the disappeared.

The case is being updated.
