The main rescue center in southern Norway (HRS southern Norway) announced around 0640 that a ship had reported an engine blackout and propulsion problems.

In addition to emergency services, rescue boats and the Coast Guard were also dispatched to the scene.

– There is a strong wind on land in the area and the situation is not clear. HRS is coordinating the effort, the first Twitter message about the incident said.

Rescue leader Steinar Vatne says it is a Norwegian cargo ship with nine people on board. Vatne says the boat has restarted the engine, but there is no control over the situation.

– The ship suffered a supposed blackout. The weather and sea conditions caused it to go very quickly towards land, says Vatne.

– Now the ship is heading north with its own machine to enter the outer reef. But we don’t know why the engine stopped. If it happens again, we will have an even worse time.

At 0700 hours, HRS announced the control of the situation: “The main rescue center has canceled all resources and thank you for the effort.”
