Police say Saturday that the defendant after Evje’s murder was the former girlfriend of the murdered woman.

The police received the murder report around 08.21. It was the defendant who himself called the police about the murder.

According to the police, the accused is a man in his 20s from Afghanistan. He had a temporary residence permit and has lived in Norway since 2015. He and the victim had a child together.

A woman in her 20s has been murdered. He lived with their common children. The child is cared for by the family and the child welfare service, Hille says.

The victim is a Norwegian citizen and grew up in Norway, according to police.

Attached to the deed

According to the police, the murder took place in the apartment of the murdered woman.

The accused will be presented to prison on Monday. He is being questioned on Saturday and linked to the act, Hille reports.

The man in his 20s has not been punished before, but the police know him. Bjørge Tveito has been named defender.

– The investigation is in an initial phase. Police are working to determine what happened and what the motive for the murder is, Hille says.

The police will now carry out technical and tactical investigations, including in the form of witness questioning, on-site forensic investigations, and obtaining video surveillance and teledata. The murdered woman will also undergo an autopsy.

– There is no one else accused in the case. As the case looks now, there appears to be only one perpetrator, Hille says.

Arrested without drama

On Friday night, the police reported that a man was charged with the murder of a person in Evje.

The defendant was detained by the police on Friday night. The arrest happened without drama, police then wrote on Twitter. They reported the case immediately after 10:30 p.m.

The arrest took place in a building in the city center at 9:30 p.m.

A witness tells Fædrelandsvennen that the armed police rushed into the building, before the ambulances came. The police then handcuffed the detainee, according to the witness.

The municipality of Evje has deployed a crisis group following the murder in the municipality on Friday. This is what the mayor reported to NRK on Saturday morning.

– What has happened is terribly sad. Last night, we deployed a crisis team to serve those in need, Mayor Svein Arne Hauge tells the state channel.
