GONE: This way was Finn and Wenche Nilsen’s house, now there’s nothing left.
The couple Finn and Wenche Nilsen were in Valdres’s cabin when the landslide in Gjerdrum occurred. When they turned on the television, they saw that their house had disappeared.
Finn and Wenche Nilsen were called by the police early Wednesday morning, with the message that they had to evacuate the house.
– I told him that we were in the cabin, and then they told me that we should not go back, says Finn Nilsen to VG.
That they had lost the house in the avalanche, they only found out when they turned on the television.
– That’s when we received the impact. I immediately saw where my house had been and that now it was gone.
Romerikes Blad was the first to mention the case.
Trying to contact the neighbors
At the cabin, the couple used the time to follow the live broadcasts and connect with neighbors and acquaintances in Gjerdrum.
Four of the neighbors have not yet been able to get in touch.
– I’m thinking of neighbors who have left. It’s hard. We think our house was the first to disappear, says Finn.
– It’s been two sad days. It’s been hell, to be honest.

I never thought about the danger of landslides
The couple have lived in the house for six years, after moving from Lørenskog to Gjerdrum.
– We have thrived and felt very welcome. It is a cozy place, with sun from morning to night and a good location. “I never thought there would be a landslide hazard here,” Finn says.
He says the people of Gjerdrum are still in shock after the landslide.
– Everyone is in shock and everyone is thinking about each other. But the municipality has worked wonderfully well, in my opinion.

Traveling during the new year
The couple is still in the Valdres cabin with friends. The plan is to return to Gjerdrum on Saturday.
– We must live with daughter and granddaughter, they have a house where it is safe. We need to sit down and look at what we need. We should spend at least Monday shopping for new clothes, among other things, says Finn.
He hopes to return to Gjerdrum again, despite the tragedy that has befallen him and the local community.
– I know what I’m getting into and it’s very comforting.
