By the end of 2020, several countries in Europe experienced a decrease in the spread of infection and the number of coronary deaths. Now the numbers are increasing again.

Tegnell believes that there may appear to be a third wave of coronavirus infection in Europe, the Expressen newspaper writes.

– There are many signs that a new wave is on the way, Tegnell said during Saturday’s press conference in Sweden on the status of the crown.

Sweden is approaching the limit of what the health service can handle. Therefore, five regions of the country have now chosen to implement their crisis plans.

The curves are going up

57,725 cases of infection were detected in Britain on Saturday. A total of 2.5 million Britons have been diagnosed with the coronavirus and nearly 75,000 have died of coronary heart disease.

This is the fifth day of rising infection rates in the UK. More Britons are hospitalized now than during the first corona wave.

In Germany, infection rates are also increasing. Half of all corona deaths in Germany occurred in December. 16,718 people died of corona between December 2 and January 1.

Mutation detected in several countries

Just before Christmas, British Prime Minister Boris Johnson reported that a new, more contagious variant of the virus had been discovered in Britain.

On Saturday, FHI confirmed 11 new cases of the British mutation. So far, 14 people in Norway have been diagnosed with the mutation.

It is estimated that the new variant of the virus may be 70 percent more contagious than the original variant, but the virus does not appear to cause a more debilitating illness.

The mutated virus has also been discovered in Sweden, Italy, and Denmark, among other places.
