Swimming, Pool | This will be Oslo’s new bathroom facility.

In the fall, you can expect a new pool in Oslo, but the corona virus threatens the process.

For New Years, the old Tøyenbadet in Oslo closed, which will now be leveled with the ground to make room for a new bathroom facility for NOK 1.4 billion.

Under the plan, the new facility will be ready by 2023, while a temporary bath facility will be built to care for Oslo citizens who bathe and swim happily.

The drawings are now ready for the building, which will be elevated on the east side of Oslo in the coming months.

– We look forward to completing the building during the year, with construction beginning in the second quarter, Communications Manager Haakon Berg Jensen of the Oslo KF Culture and Sports Building tells Nettavisen.

– Crown can delay

The bathroom is scheduled to open in the fall, but due to the corona virus this may be delayed.

– It will probably be later in the fall than early in the situation we are in now. We have had an acquisition in the market and we are now in the process of evaluating those offers. They will be treated in the ordinary way, although we have to make some reservations about the crown and people’s employment status, says Jensen.

In total, the municipality has received offers from three contractors to build the bathroom.

“It is a little premature to say something about what the final process will be like and how long it will take to sign the contract,” he says.

Plastic room is being rebuilt

But if there is a delay then it is not the first time. The City Council promised that the temporary toilet would be in place for the closure of the Tøyenbadet, which has not happened, as Nettavisen mentioned in January.

– It will be listed as a temporary bath, but it will be a good quality bath, Jensen says of the plans.

The pool, to be built next to the Løren school in Økern, will be built as a 12.5×25 meter fully welded steel pool. The depth varies up to 1.5 meters, making it also suitable for swimming training.

– A plastic structure will be built over the pool. Two women’s closets, two men’s closets and a family closet are also being built, she says.

– Open to everyone

– Will the bathroom be open to everyone?

– The idea is that it should be open to everyone, and that it should be able to ease the other swimming facilities during the actual construction period for the new Tøyenbadet, and offer a better swimming offer, says Jensen.

According to him, it will be a place to train and do swimming training for schools, but no other offer beyond that, like a diving tower or water slides.

To be reused later

Although the plan is for the Økern pool to be closed again when Tøyenbadet opens in 2023, the Bjerke district expects the facility to remain standing after that.

The city of Oslo will reuse the bathroom elsewhere.

“To minimize the environmental impact, we have focused a lot on recycling. The bathroom is scheduled to be dismantled and reused elsewhere after the end of the period in Økern », writes Culture and Sports Building on its website.

– There is a reuse tank here. You want the pool to be reused elsewhere in Oslo if necessary, or you may have a chance to sell it, says Jensen.

It is the City Environment Agency responsible for the subsequent use of the bathroom and who will be responsible for the subsequent use.

He also notes that the restroom must be built fossil-free, which means that all construction equipment at the construction site must be electrical or run on biodiesel.

This is Tøyenbadet

The new Tøyenbadet will have a 50×25 meter main pool, a 5 meter plunge tower deep pool, a hot water pool and a children’s and family pool. In addition to several outdoor pools; a 25×15 meter pool, a deep pool and a children’s and family pool.

In addition, a water slide, hot and cold pulp, saunas, cabinets, offices, cafeteria / kiosk and stalls with space for about 500 spectators will be built.

A multipurpose room will also be built next to the bathroom facilities.
