All Swedes over the age of 18 will be offered a coronavirus vaccine in the first half of 2021, the Swedish newspaper Expressen writes on Tuesday night.
The news came at a press conference with Sweden’s Minister for Social Affairs Lena Hallengren.
– The state and regions must work together to come up with the best possible information and work to ensure that as many people as possible are vaccinated. The common goal is that all people in Sweden over the age of 18, and people under 18 in the risk group, should be vaccinated, Hallengren says.
But FHI in Norway cannot promise that the same will happen here.
– We want to offer vaccination to all people who are at least 18 years old as soon as possible. Now we cannot promise that it will be possible in the first half of 2021, says Preben Aavitsland, FHI chief physician, to Aftenposten.
– It depends, among other things, on which vaccines are approved and how much the manufacturers can supply.
NIPH: I hope everyone over 18 gets an offer during 2021
Aavitsland says that he does not know the basis for the Swedish estimates and therefore cannot comment on how the Swedes can have such a goal or if they are optimistic.
– What time horizons do you foresee in Norway?
– We don’t know yet, but we hope that all people over 18 years of age will have received the offer during 2021.
Norway is part of the EU’s joint procurement agreements with several vaccine manufacturers and will receive the same number of vaccines per year. inhabitants like Sweden, says Aavitsland.
An “ambitious” plan
