The incident occurred around midnight Monday at the Spijkenisse metro line terminal, south of the city of Rotterdam.

The subway tracks are located on an elevated bridge, which stops right next to a neighborhood. Instead of stopping at the terminal, the carriage passed through the barricades and ended up outside the bridge.

Images from the site show the carriage swinging just over ten meters above the ground on a sculpture of a whale’s tail fin.

The public transportation company says the driver escaped the somewhat special incident unscathed. There were no passengers on board either.
