During a press conference today, the Bodø Municipality announced two new corona cases.

A total of 20 people in the municipality are isolated and 180 people have been quarantined.

– The increase we have had recently is cause for concern. This is simply because there are too many risky behaviors, says chief infection control physician Kai Brynjar Hagen.

At Bodø Upper Secondary School, 54 students and 10 employees are in quarantine. Four people associated with the school have been confirmed to be infected.

– There is no doubt that many people find this unpleasant. They are anxious and do not know how to deal with what is happening, says director Nina Røvik.

Several of the students who are in quarantine are said to have participated in two different parties this past weekend. This is confirmed by Røvik.

– They are young people who want to be together and who need to get to know each other. But then they have to take care of the infection control rules that exist now, with a maximum of five people if they are in someone’s house. They also have to keep their distance, but some of them are struggling with it.

Strongly attack incitement

According to the director, infected or quarantined students have experienced being provoked on social media.

– They experience receiving messages that they definitely should not receive in such a situation. When students are frustrated and not sure what to do, it’s easy to attack another person and say something nasty. But we hit it hard, says Nina Røvik.

She herself has not seen what has been written, but encourages students and parents to talk about it and be aware that it is happening.

– It is very important that we are together and protect each other, regardless of whether we are infected or quarantined. We can’t be ugly to each other about this, because then we end up with bullying cases that we also have to deal with. Which is very serious in itself.

– There is no one who enters consciously to become infected and no one wants to spread the disease more. We do not know who is next, we hope there will not be more, but the probability is there.

– don’t feel ashamed

Bodø Mayor Ida Pinnerød says she is really upset when she hears that students receive nasty messages from their peers.

– They are not feeling well and no one thinks it is okay for them to receive these types of messages.

During the press conference, he reminded people that everyone can get infected and perhaps also help spread the infection.

– Right now it is incredibly important that we do what we can to prevent infection, while doing what we can to take care of each other. We must prevent guilt and shame from spreading, because no one benefits, says Pinnerød.

Infection in various schools

At Rana ungdomsskole in Helgeland, all students stay home for the rest of the week. The same applies to upper secondary school in the Arctic Circle, writes Rana Blad.

The reason is the outbreak in the municipality. Students receive tuition at home so the municipality’s infection detection team has a better time to do the mapping, the school writes on its website.

A total of 29 people with a residential address in Rana tested positive for COVID-19.
