It arises in a national review by the Swedish supervisory authority IVO (Inspektionen for care and nursing).

IVO concludes that none of the health regions has assumed responsibility for safe care and treatment tailored to the individual needs of patients with suspected or proven covid-19. A review of medical records shows that one-fifth of the elderly in nursing homes did not receive an individual physician’s consultation.

– It is a very high number and it is not acceptable, says the general director of IVO Sofia Wallström.

Research also shows that the elderly and their families have not been informed or allowed to participate in care and treatment for suspected or proven corona infection. Decisions and implementation of end-of-life care have also not been carried out in accordance with current regulations during the pandemic for the elderly in nursing homes.

It is not possible to follow the care and treatment of the coronary elderly in nursing homes due to deficiencies in the clinical history of patients in the primary health service.
