– We see trends towards incitement and stigmatization of those who have been unlucky enough to become infected. We see it on social media. This helps counteract the infection work we do and is directly damaging. Enough, we are completely dependent on contacting those who have been infected and their close contacts, and who dare to be honest with their movements.

The mayor says it is not a shame to be infected.

– Even if we are in a difficult situation, we must try to remain calm. Many feel insecure and some may be afraid. I understand it really good. We have to live with a little uncertainty for a while, but we have to help each other. We must take care of the vulnerable around us. Call someone who is going through a difficult time and is very lonely during these times.

Kathrine Kristoffersen is Tromsø’s municipal chief physician. She believes that the situation indicates that there is more contagion in society than the municipality has a general vision to date. Now a mobile test station is being established.

– There are 26 infections in Kongsbakken Upper Secondary School, two in Tromsdalen Upper Secondary. Today we have received four new positives, one is from Ishavsbyen Upper Secondary School. The school is closing. The infected person has close contact at Langnes’ school, which is under quarantine. A total of 28 infections were detected Thursday, he says.

On Thursday, the municipality of Tromsø proposed new and stricter measures to limit the infection.

Tighter measures

The municipality presents several new recommendations.

– It is recommended to cancel sporting events, tournaments and matches in which it is not possible to keep your distance. Tromsø people shouldn’t participate in such events anywhere else, says the municipal chief.

Otherwise, he listed several current measures:

  • Placement and practice should be postponed.
  • Visiting routines in nursing homes are changing.
  • It is recommended to cancel youth events.
  • More digital training should be considered.
  • Mouthpieces must be used in public transport.
  • Exam at home at university whenever possible

– It is understandable that people are frustrated and want to regain their normal life. But I advise people to follow the recommendations that come from the government and from us. We have to act now and everyone must contribute. If everyone takes responsibility, we can win the race against this virus. I think we will make it, says Kristoffersen.

A total of 78 people in Tromsø are isolated.

In the last two days some 1,100 people have been tested.

– The infection monitoring team provides intensive training. Tracking and quarantine work takes time, says theme leader Ø claim Benjaminsen at the corona center.

Evaluate 500 students

On Thursday, all 500 students from Tromsdalen Upper Secondary School will be assessed.

Lots of social contact in free time and between classes has made the situation confusing. On Thursday, therefore, all students must take the crown test.

– We have seen that young people who have tested positive so far have weak or no symptoms. So it becomes difficult or scary if they go out into the community and are at risk for vulnerable groups, says theme leader Ø claim Benjaminsen for the corona center in Tromsø.

On Tuesday, the testing staff moved to Kongsbakken Upper Secondary School and began mass testing about 700 students.

So far, the municipality has stated that 23 infected young people have been identified. This number is expected to be much higher when the municipality calls a press conference at 11 a.m. on Thursday.

– The situation is confusing

Today, a test room is being installed at the upper secondary school in Tromsdalen. Here, three students tested positive for COVID-19 and all the students are in quarantine.

– The situation is that there has been a lot of social contact between classes in free time. This worries us and the situation is confusing. Therefore, more than 500 students will be tested during the day, says Benjaminsen.

The goal is to control who is infected.

– We do not have a complete view of who has been in contact with whom. We tried to map out the best we can, but in the last few days it has burned our feet when we had to get in touch with everyone who was to be evaluated. But of course we are curious where those who tested positive have been in the past two weeks before they were diagnosed with the infection.

– The situation is serious

The analytical capacity of the corona tests in Troms will soon be increased. This means that it now takes up to two days to get responses to corona tests.

– I agree with what the mayor has already said. The municipality of Tromsø is in a dire situation at the moment, says Benjaminsen.

At the moment, it is not relevant to evaluate other schools in Tromsø.

– We get good experiences with test schools. In the future, it may also be relevant to test entire companies.
