Health Director Runar Johannessen informs Aftenbladet that Stavanger Municipality is pausing use. Sandnes does the same, according to Sandnesposten.

– Following reports from Denmark on possible side effects, we consider it more justifiable to pause vaccination with AstraZeneca until clarified by the National Institute of Public Health and the Norwegian Medicines Agency, says Health Director Runar Johannessen on the website of the municipality.

– The vaccine underwent extensive testing before approval, and it would be surprising if it had serious side effects, but we must always be careful, says Johannessen.

AstraZeneca, also known as the Oxford vaccine, has been given to millions of Britons with no similar side effects reported.

Bergen and Trondheim also decided Thursday to stop using the vaccine.

The reason for this is that Denmark and several other European countries have decided to stop using the vaccine due to side effects. Several cases of blood clots have been reported in Austria and Sweden.

On Thursday, the Norwegian Medicines Agency will hold an emergency meeting on the vaccine to review the information.

The municipality of Sola states in an email to Aftenbladet that they have not planned any vaccination schedule with Astrazeneca for today and therefore await further information from the NIPH before making any decision.
