Maguire was convicted in a Greek court in August for a series of crimes that allegedly occurred during a vacation trip to the island of Mykonos this summer. The midfielder has appealed the 21-month probation sentence.

United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjær talks about a difficult period for the 27-year-old. He chooses to trust his defensive line and continue with Maguire as team captain.

– His rest was different from the rest. We gave him a few more days, and after that he’s back and looks good. He has handled it very well and of course I will be here to support him. He will be our captain, says Solskjær in an interview with the club’s own website.

– We let Harry and his people and this process continue. To me, he is an absolute person and has always been a positive guy with the right values. So I really hope we can see Harry perform at his best, continues the Norwegian.

Fight

The background to the Harry Maguire trial is a fight between two groups of tourists in Mykonos on August 21. According to the Greek police, several police officers received blows on the roof of the basket.

Maguire was found guilty on all charges in the indictment: violence against a public official, repeated bribery attempts, abusive behavior and resistance to arrest. The United star himself has explained in an interview with the BBC that he feared for his own life, and denied doing anything wrong.

The sentence of 21 months and 10 days in prison is conditional and, as it is Maguire’s first offense, he will not have to serve a sentence in any case.

Manchester United open the series at home against Crystal Palace next weekend.
