It was Sergeant Major Ben Kooyman, 42, who was found dead at Skjold military camp in Målselv. Report to the navy in the Dutch navy on Twitter.
Preliminary investigations have shown that Kooyman died of an acute heart attack. He leaves a wife and a child in his home country.
– Ben was a much appreciated and loved colleague, a spreader of joy and highly respected. We have lost a fantastic colleague. Our condolences to Ben’s family, the Navy writes in a press release.

On February 13, fellow soldiers found the 42-year-old man dead in his bed at the barracks and he was pronounced dead on the spot. The police launched an investigation into the suspicious death. However, no findings were made to indicate that anything other than that disease was the cause of death.
– We have no concrete evidence of a criminal act, Police Prosecutor Marie Lygre in the Troms police district told Dagbladet.
It was cancelled
The first 3,000 foreign soldiers landed at the military portion of Bardufoss Airport in Inner Troms in early January to participate in the “Joint Viking” exercise in Troms and north of Nordland in March.
However, the infection situation caused the entire exercise to be canceled. Around 10,000 soldiers were supposed to have participated, of which around 3,400 were allied participants from abroad.
Just days after arriving in Norway, several of the foreign soldiers tested positive for COVID-19 and, in the end, nearly 100 soldiers were infected.
