Silje Solberg entered the Norwegian European Championship squad ahead of Saturday’s game against Croatia after losing the championship start to coronavirus.
The 30-year-old was in the second half and had a 27 percent save in a 36-25 win against Croatia. They secured a place in the Norwegian semi-final and a group win.
– I’m not so concerned about statistics, more about work tasks. I’d like to take a few more balls with a little better timing and good feel so I think it will go up a bit, says Solberg.

Solberg has felt good in training and says the heart and lung test he had before returning gives him good confidence.
Prepared in isolation
The Györ goalkeeper still feels a bit rusty and appears to be playing after five weeks without a fight due to the crown infection.
– It was incredibly frustrating when they took you out and you’re ready for the championship, and you’ve actually tried to avoid this virus all fall, so it comes when you least expect it, he says.
– It was incredibly boring when you’ve done nothing but be in the apartment and in the hallway, but that’s life. When it first came, it was just laying back on the couch and waiting until it passed, and then quietly starting to exercise when I was ready, Solberg continues.
Solberg has used the time in corona isolation to prepare.
– I have seen several games, some video analysis and I have tried to move a little without a pulse. There has been some hand-eye coordination with palms and bundles, so I think it was incredibly important for me to get it inside a little bit before coming here, says Solberg.
– Pure luxury
Norway started with Emily Stang Sando and Rikke Granlund as goalkeepers in the team, but since the first two matches, Katrine Lunde and Silje Solberg have come in and taken the places. Sando has traveled home to Germany, while Granlund is among the reserves that are still in Denmark.
– I can’t stand having so much pain
– It was a lot of fun to enter, and then it was pure luxury that the semi-final place was immediately secured, but Hungary will be important. It is about prestige and it is a battle we want to win, although we are already prepared. It’s a good opportunity to train myself in things, so for me it will be important, says Silje Solberg.
National team manager Thorir Hergeirsson is pleased with Solberg’s efforts.
– I think Katrine and Silje had five or six rescues each. I’ve seen them get more out, but it was a good start for Silje. Can’t wait too long, because it’s the first match in a long time and she needs to get to know him a bit. I definitely think it looks promising, he tells TV3.
TV 2 handball expert Bent Svele gave Solberg $ 5 on the stock exchange for his efforts against Croatia. Lunde had six after a save percentage of 30.
