Six out of 10 are planning a vacation this summer, and as many as before are planning to take a fall vacation, figures from Virke Reiseliv’s population survey show.

With the coronary vaccine and better cancellation options, the likelihood that people will choose to take this year’s summer vacation abroad increases. Many believe that the infection situation will improve so much during the year that it will be possible to travel abroad again.

If the authorities do not advise against this type of trip, it is likely that almost half of those who go on summer vacations will spend it abroad in 2021, the survey shows. Spain, Greece, Sweden and Denmark are foreign favorites.

Norgesferie

At the same time, seven out of ten believe that the corona pandemic will also make its mark in the summer of this year, and therefore most are planning a holiday in Norway. Hiking and other nature-based activities seem to appeal to many, and Vestland is emerging as a new favorite among those who want to vacation in their own country.

– We are pleased that many are planning to travel both abroad and to their own country in 2021. For companies, it is now about holding out until the activity starts again and preparing for the day when people will travel again, says Astrid Bergmål, leader of Virke Reiseliv.

The travel budget per household this year is NOK 35,350 on average. This is a decrease from last year’s survey, when the average budget was NOK 43,050.

More concerned about the environment

At the same time, nearly one in four, 23 percent, say they are more concerned about traveling in an environmentally friendly way now than before the pandemic. In contrast, only 5 percent say they are less concerned about it than before.

– People are more concerned than before about choosing trips that take into account the environment and sustainability. This is a trend that has been reinforced during the pandemic, says Bergmål.
