Storting’s representative, Christian Tybring-Gjedde (Frp), left the parliament hall yesterday in protest amid the response he received from Foreign Minister Ine Eriksen Søreide (H).
You shouldn’t have done that, says Frp leader Siv Jensen.
– I understand his reaction, but it is clear that you have to stand in the pulpit, Jensen says to Dagbladet.
Tybring-Gjedde was clubbed by party colleague Morten Wold, who presided in the room.
High temperature
The heated dispute started when Tybring-Gjedde wanted to know if the Foreign Minister was proud to receive 3,000 refugees with quotas and if she was with them on a daily basis.
When Eriksen Søreide said that he has lived and prospered for over 20 years in one of the neighborhoods with the largest minority population, Old Oslo, Tybring-Gjedde replied that it is not about sitting in a cafe.
When Eriksen said that it is good to have many in the neighborhood with a minority background, and that “it may actually be because I have a slightly different attitude towards people coming from a different place than the representative suggests” Tybring-Gjedde had enough.
“I think the Foreign Minister acted unworthy and his accusations were stigmatizing and hurtful. I hope she realizes it herself and has the style and dignity to realize admitting it. I think Dagbladet understands what I’m looking for.” Tybring-Gjedde wrote in a text message to Dagbladet last night.
Debate
Siv asks right
Siv Jensen says he has been through the debate and believes Tybring-Gjeddes’s starting point was to advocate a critical discussion of the system about the consequences of too high immigration to Norway.
– I experience a foreign minister who recognized that “this is not a problem”. So my question is to the right: is it the Minister of Foreign Affairs who defines a more liberal course in immigration policy on the right or is it the Minister of Justice, Monica Mæland, who says that it should be strict? Jensen asks.
FRP Ultimatum
Siv Jensen moved to VG yesterday and established the ultimatum for next year’s state budget: if the government receives support from Frp, there must be a reduction in the number of quota refugees from today’s 3,000.
– This is a very clear signal from me: Frp cannot see any reason to maintain such a high level of quota refugees when we have to prioritize a lot in the future. Now there are very big challenges in Norway, the number of quota refugees is an obvious area where we can reduce, says Jensen.
Erna Solberg reminds Siv Jensen and Frp that they agreed to about 3,000 quota refugees in Granavolden, although Jensen has said that Frp is no longer bound by the agreement when they have become an opposition party.
The Prime Minister does not want to comment on the episode between Eriksen Søreide and Tybring-Gjedde.
– There were different characteristics from what others thought, I never think it is a good idea. It can be a heated discussion at the Storting without us having to comment and hold it for a long time, “says Solberg.
– We will take up the budget negotiations when they come to Storting this fall, continues the Prime Minister.
– You have to bear being contradicted
Ine Eriksen Søreide responded yesterday through her communications manager, Trude Måseide, about what she perceived to have hurt Tybring-Gjedde, and whether she intends to admit to allegedly unworthy and stigmatized behavior:
“Christian Tybring-Gjedde came up with characteristics of the politics of the right, the refugees and me. Then he has to endure being contradicted, facing facts and arguments, and not breaking into the pulpit and walking out of the aisle when he receives answers he doesn’t like. “
Do you want to argue?
