It will be a long time before someone can say “food is served” at the food cart hatch on National Road 7 in Eidfjord. On Monday, the carriage was smashed beyond recognition in an explosion.
The remains were later strewn across the road, including a sign that ended up several meters high on a tree.
Fortunately, no one was working on the carriage when it ended up as stick lumber. Nearby were two people who had gone out for a walk. They were later transferred by ambulance, but should not be seriously injured.
Near the fire station
Guard Commander Ronald Drotningsvik at switchboard 110 told Dagbladet on Monday morning that they were notified of the incident by an astonished passerby at 12:09. When the first unit was in place, it was aimed at being a food cart on wheels.
– We have all been in contact with the bang brand. There were probably some pressure waves when it hit. Fortunately, the fire station is only a few hundred meters away, says Eidfjord fire service operations manager Egil Holven to Dagbladet.
Closed during the day – this is a freezer
Along with 10 others from the local fire service, he rushed to the blast on Monday along with police and an ambulance. You would hardly think about what might have happened if there had been people at work when it crashed.
– The carriage was closed for the season, but there were people there until Friday. The explosion was so powerful that it was no longer possible to tell what had been there, says Holven.
– Violent forces
According to the leader of the task, the car was a few tens of meters from a restaurant. People are not said to be injured here either, but two windows blew out and the outdoor furniture was thrown.
– There must have been violent forces at work. We suspect that there has been a gas leak in the car and that it has somehow ignited. There are criminal techs there this afternoon, so we’ll see what they conclude, says Holven.
Surprised owner
The wagon’s owner, Arthur Fjetland, has worked as a cook for 35 years. He tells Dagbladet that he has never experienced anything like this. Monday’s event was also very scary for the owner.
– I was sitting in the car when I got a call about the explosion. At first I thought it was silly, then I realized that this had actually happened. For the next 20 minutes, I tried to locate the chef who, among other things, works on the carriage. He didn’t answer the phone and his thoughts quickly went in the direction of the worst, says Fjetland.
At least 74 injured after explosion in restaurant in Spain
In the end, it was the police who informed him that there were no signs of injuries at the scene. Now he is only being praised happily because no one lost their lives in the incident.
– It could have been a lot worse. Huge forces have been at work. Among other things, there was an ice machine in the car. It probably weighs between 80 and 100 kilos and has been thrown away. This was so scary that I seriously consider leaving the fuel in the restaurant next door as well, says the chef.
