Shooting in the streets of Mortensrud

The electric car had passed through Lofsrudveien for the fifth time in a few hours, when a 21-year-old man raised a pistol at an outstretched arm. The Easter silence in Mortensrud this year was interrupted by a loud bang, when he fired a shot in the direction of the car.

The man is one of two people who were sentenced Friday to six and a half years in prison for attempted murder.

Prosecutor Tonje Tønder dropped the demand for eight years in prison for the shooters, but the judge thought there were doubts about whether the young men would intimidate or kill.

– In that situation, I went wrong. I got my adrenaline pumping and I was shot over the ceiling to scare, the 21-year-old said, when the case reached the Oslo District Court.

Threat rumors

A star-shaped hole on the left side of the electric car’s windshield showed where one of the bullets had struck, before piercing the dash and hitting the driver’s side door frame.

– I thought they hit me. For me, this came completely out of nowhere. He had nothing unresolved with anyone, explained the 35-year-old who was driving the car. The man is well known to the Oslo police and has been convicted several times.

It was almost two in the afternoon on Good Friday at Easter when the incident occurred. The rumor of death threats had spread among the young people who stayed around the Lofsrud school: the man at the wheel of the electric car was going to kill one or more of the people who remained in the area.

– I would never kill him, said the 21-year-old.

The defender of man believes that it is up to the verdict to appeal.

– We do not agree with the assessment of the evidence against intent. An attempt was made to drive the 35-year-old from the area. So it’s not an assassination attempt, says the 21-year-old’s defender, Bjørn Aksel Henriksen.

Scare

Seconds after the first shot was fired, a second convict fired a shot at the car.

Surveillance camera footage clearly showed that at least two shots were fired at the car and who fired the shots. Both admitted in court that they had fired the shots.

Ole Petter Drevland defended the second murder convict, also a 21-year-old man. He is also considering appealing the verdict to the Court of Appeal.

– We do not agree with the assessment of intent. He thinks he shot to scare, says Drevland.

Prosecutor and prosecutor Tonje Tønder believes that the court has largely evaluated the evidence in the same way as the prosecution authority, but:

– The court has not fully complied with my claim, Tonje Tønder.

– The court has taken something below my statement on the sentence and probably has not considered that this assassination attempt was a planned act, says Tønder.

Serious threats

A total of four people sat on the prosecution bench as the case went to the empty courtroom at the Oslo District Court.

Two of them were charged with complicity in attempted murder, but were eventually convicted of serious threats. The penalty here is significantly less.

The older of the two, a 19-year-old boy, received a prison sentence of one year and eight months.

– You are glad that you believe that you did not participate in an assassination attempt, says Stian Mæland. The 19-year-old’s lawyer.

Mæland says they will carefully review the verdict before the appeal issue is decided.

The youngest, an 18-year-old, was given one year and six months, but was sentenced to six months in prison if he did not commit a crime within the next two years.

– The hope was an absolute acquittal, but the verdict shows. He will not appeal, says Marijana Lozic, who is holding the young man.

– Says it feels good to be done with this case anyway, Lozic tells Dagbladet.

The prosecution authority has the opportunity to appeal both the sentence and the question of guilt.

– We will consider whether we accept the verdict, but today we cannot say anything about it, says the prosecutor.
