Police informed the AP news agency that it is a “very active situation” at the Mayfair Mall in Wauwatosa, outside of Milwaukee.
The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports that multiple people have been shot inside the mall. BNO News advises that it must be at least five people.
Police are said to have asked mall employees to notify customers through the loudspeaker system that they should request coverage.
The incident began just before 3 p.m. local time on Friday afternoon.
Both Fox6 and BNO News report that the shooting took place at or next to Macy’s at the end of the mall.
There was quickly a major police raid outside the Mayfair Mall in Wauwatosa.
I heard a lot of shots
Several journalists tell various US media that they have heard up to a dozen shots.
WISN has interviewed a woman who has barricaded herself inside the mall. She says she heard 10 to 15 shots, then went silent.
He says that now he sees the police going through the mall looking for the attacker.
Another witness told WISN that he initially thought they were fireworks. But after 8-12 shots were fired, everyone around him started running.
– I’m shocked. I’m so scared. There were several shots, one after another. At first we thought they were things that fell, because they were. I saw a person walking on the ground. I saw my head fall and I heard one shot after another, a woman tells the Reuters news agency.
– Then I heard screams, and then I saw everyone running. He was standing at a counter. I ducked, but heard everyone yelling and started to leave the place. I just thought “I have to go, I have to go.” I ran out the door, the woman says.
I don’t know how many were shot
The number of possible victims is unknown, but photos from the site have shown that at least five people have been transported by ambulances.
According to the MIwaukee Journal Sentinel, the first police officer to arrive at the scene reported at least two people with gunshot wounds.
Wauwatosa rapporteur Dennis McBride tells ABC News that while there are several injuries, no one should be life-threatening.
Outlets should be transported away from the northernmost part where Macy’s is located.
The medical examiners office has not been contacted, which may indicate that no one is currently dead.
It will be the part where the Macy’s department store is located where the shooting took place.
The perpetrator not caught
According to BNO News, both the mall and the neighborhood schools were immediately closed and police began searching for the perpetrator.
The perpetrator has yet to be detained and police tell ABC News that they do not know if the person is still inside the mall or has left.
There will be more than 160 stores in the mall.
