Two men went out late Saturday night on a fishing trip in Nordland’s Leirfjord township. After several hours, his severely damaged boat was found on an islet.

A man, in his 30s, has been confirmed dead by health personnel at the scene. The other man, in his 50s, was taken to the hospital by air ambulance. The extent of the damage is unknown.

According to Helgelands Blad, the condition was critical when the man was transferred to St. Olav Hospital.

According to police, the men went fishing at 11pm on Saturday. When they did not return home, the family finally contacted the police at 5:17 a.m. on Sunday night.

At 0637, emergency services were notified that an acquaintance had found the lost ship on Suttaren islet, outside Leinesodden, in Nordland’s Leirfjord municipality.

– They have driven ashore on that islet, says operations manager Ulf Slettan in the Nordland police district to VG.

Although emergency services came out with large crews, a man’s life could not be saved.

– The ship has some damage, but I do not have the complete description, he says.

He adds that there appear to have been no witnesses to the accident. She also claims that the police currently have no basis to suspect intoxication.

It is unclear how long the ship with the men was on the islet before they were found.

– The case is being investigated as an accident and it is too early to say anything about the cause, say the police.

The damaged ship has been transported ashore and will be examined. Among other things, the police hope to know how fast he was.
