The main rescue center reports that a 31-foot viksund shark with sails is in distress in Vestfjord.
According to the Main Rescue Center, the ship passed Bodø around 1:30 p.m. this afternoon.
The captain then contacted Kystradio Nord for the weather forecast and announced that he was heading further north.
– At approximately 7.15pm tonight, he got in touch and told him that he had started to have problems. He had a blackout in the navigation system, had received water on his mobile phone and needed help, says the rescue leader at the Main Rescue Center Frode Iversen.
They then sent a rescue helicopter to search for the boat. According to Lofotenposten, the search began in the area between Moskenes and Steigen.
– The problem is that even though we sent a helicopter, we didn’t know where it was. We did a calculation based on what he said about heading and speed, it was obviously not good enough, because we haven’t found the boat yet, says the rescue leader.
The main rescue center has now changed its search area.
– Based on the radio and mobile phone signals, we have now targeted an area west of Bodø and Steigen, says Iversen.
At 10:45 p.m., two F-16s were dispatched from Bodø to assist in the search. In addition, four Coast Guard vessels have been dispatched to the area.
– The F-16 is equipped with good sensors, so if the ship is on the surface they should be able to locate it very quickly, says the rescue leader.
– When was the last time you had contact with the ship?
– We had a dialogue with him no later than 20.15. But we have received signals from the mobile phone after that, and that is a good signal.
Today it is very windy in Nordland. In the relevant exploration area, there is still a strong gale around 11pm, but it will be a cool breeze overnight.
