In the past 24 hours, nine people tested positive for the coronavirus in Sarpsborg and 17 in Fredrikstad. Almost 200 people have been quarantined, estimates the Fredrikstad municipal chief.

A total of 42 people from the same environment are infected.

According to the Fredrikstad municipal chief doctor, Anne Kristine Nitter, the infection must have spread in two groups.

Religious meeting and family event.

Last week, a religious meeting was organized in Sarpsborg. According to the Sarpsborg Municipality, this should have been a celebration of a Muslim holiday.

At least one person must have been infected when they attended the event. The celebration must have lasted several days.

– We take the situation seriously, and we should probably expect more cases of infection related to this event in the coming days. At the same time, we hope that through good infection screening we will prevent the outbreak from growing further, says Nitter.

Everyone who participated in the event in Sarpsborg was quarantined.

Also, an infection must have occurred in a family event. Several of the same people have participated in both events.

Municipalities are working to test all participants and a lot of work is being done to detect infections.

– All are known close contacts. People work very well with us and help us so that we can find new close contacts. We’ve been in contact with a lot of people now, and there are a lot who are testing themselves, says Nitter.

Collaborate with the religious network

The infection has affected people in the age group of 10 to 50 years.

– We are talking about approx. 160 people who should have been there one or more days, Sarpsborg municipal chief doctor Karianne Jenseg Bergmann tells NRK.
