On Tuesday morning, activists formed a link of people from Block Y to Storting to persuade politicians to save the demolished building.
With discreet calls to “Let Y Stand”, between 100 and 200 people joined the link of people who, with the proper distance, managed to get away from Storting from the government neighborhood.
SV Parliamentary Representative Petter Eide met with protesters with promises to try to get politicians to stop the demolition. On Tuesday morning, he submitted a proposal to the Storting that the demolition be suspended until the District Court has resolved the case in August.
– It is relatively useless for them to continue breaking now, Eide tells NTB.
The Oslo District Court gave a clear signal in early April that the building could be demolished. But the decision to demolish Block Y has been brought before the court, and the case will only be considered in August.
“It is also about respecting the decisions of the courts,” says Eide.
The Y block contains murals that Pablo Picasso and Carl Nesjar have created together.
There are now plans to preserve the works of art and integrate them into the new government neighborhood.
