Kongsberg Municipality decided today to close the primary school before Christmas, while yesterday it was decided to close the upper secondary school. Now Sarpsborg also closes all schools on Friday.
In recent days, several municipalities with higher infection pressure have decided to close their schools.
On December 15, the Lillehammer Municipality decided to introduce homeschooling until Christmas. It happened after the day before they had 32 new infected in a day yesterday.
Several municipalities with major outbreaks are now doing the same.
On Thursday, both Sarpsborg Township and Kongsberg Township announced that they will close several of their schools.
In Kongsberg Township, it was decided to close the township primary schools two days ahead of schedule before the Christmas holidays on December 21 and December 22 respectively, while Kongsberg Upper Secondary School closed yesterday.
The case is being updated.
Sarpsborg follows
At the same time, the municipality of Sarpsborg closes all its schools on Thursday, after 20 new cases of infection were recorded in the last 24 hours.
Therefore, no pupils will have classes in Sarpsborg schools on Friday.
The high pressure of infection and many cases of infection with an unknown route of infection are the reason why the Sarpsborg Municipality now chooses to close all schools, one day before the holidays start. Students will receive homeschooling on the last day.
– Now there is such a high infection pressure and increasing unknown routes of infection that we have had to take a drastic step. It is not something you want, of course, but now we have no way around it, says Mayor Sindre Martinsen-Evje (Labor).
Kongsberg infection registry
On Wednesday, Kongsberg Municipality set a new infection record with 25 new infections in the past 24 hours, Laagendalsposten reported.
Also on Wednesday, many infected people were registered in the municipality, a total of 16 new cases.
Several were associated with outbreaks in the municipality’s health institutions. Among the new cases announced yesterday are two employees of the Skinnarberga health center, where there is an outbreak where there are now at least eight infected employees and four infected residents, the municipality writes on its website.
At the Tislegård treatment and residential center, three employees were reported infected on Tuesday. The municipality has introduced a restraining order with exceptions in special cases.
A total of 9 residents and 12 employees are infected, Mayor Kari Anne Sand tells VG.
At Kongsberg Hospital, three people are now hospitalized with coronary heart disease. Here there have also been infections among employees this week.
– On Tuesday, there were three infected employees at the hospital and 14 employees in quarantine. Of course, it may change, but it’s the latest update we have, says press officer Jarand Waaland at Vestre Viken health fund.
The GV figures, shown below, may differ from those of the municipality because we obtain them directly from the MSIS, which is based on where people are registered and do not necessarily live:
