According to the police, one of the dead is a policeman. It is not stated exactly how many died. A man has been arrested. Police confirm that the suspect was injured in the shooting.
The shooting happened in and outside the King Soopers store in Boulder.
Police asked people in the area to stay away while the situation was unclear. A large concentration of heavily armed policemen marked the scene for several hours after the first report of the shooting came in at around 2:30 a.m. local time.
For more than five hours, the situation was unclear and an “active shooter” was reported.
This is the second mass shooting in the United States in a week. In Atlanta, eight people died on March 17.
The man got handcuffed
Television footage from the scene showed a man in his underwear being taken away by police. He had blood running down his leg and he was handcuffed. He was expelled from the scene in an ambulance. Police claim that he received treatment at a local hospital. No further injuries have been reported.
A man in the store told ABC News television that he heard a loud bang and saw another. When it crashed the third time, everyone started running, the man said.
Witnesses have told the Associated Press that they have seen several people lying on the ground in the parking lot outside the store and also inside the store, but it has not been confirmed how many have died.
Television footage from the site shows that some of the store’s windows are broken. The photos show several police vehicles and many police officers outside the building. At least three helicopters have landed on the roof of the building where the supermarket is located.
