Overnight, Bergen police had to move nine families with children after reports of violence and disturbances at the home. Three people have been arrested and in several cases the child welfare service has been notified.
It was a busy night in the West Police District the night before Christmas Day. After 11pm, things must have been going well for the police in Bergen, as people were getting more and more drunk.
– We have been on nine assignments with nine different families. There is talk of violence in close relationships or fights for intoxication, and in three of the cases it is the children who have called the police, says operations manager Hans-Eirik Thue to VG.
– Social networks are flooded with happy Christmas celebrations, but unfortunately it is not like that for everyone.
It was Bergens Tidende who first mentioned the events of the night.
– It’s a sad Christmas celebration. And we are surprised that there are so many, says Thue.
– Not used to emergencies related to alcohol and drugs during the Christmas holidays?
– Yes, there is always a lot of intoxication and alcohol during the Christmas holidays, but it is not common that we have to move in the place to calm the spirits of mom and dad, responds the operations manager.
The notified child welfare service
Three people are now incarcerated as a result of domestic violence cases on Christmas night. The Police warn that they have also created several cases that will be investigated, also in cases in which there were no arrests.
– The detainees here are people who either do not calm down when the police arrive, or in cases where the violence is serious.
– For us, it was about creating peace and order, and assessing whether it is safe for the children to stay at the address with their mother and father, continues Thue.
The police did not take any of the children, but in several cases the child welfare service has been notified.
Now the police are asking that the rest of Christmas be quiet for the children of Bergen.
– We were hoping that Christmas was about Christmas peace and family traditions. Now we hope that the rest of Christmas will be quiet and that people will be nice to each other. If you react to alcohol, you should refrain from drinking, Thue says.

Oslo: 13 cases of domestic violence the same night
In Oslo, the police have been investigating 13 cases related to domestic violence from 1 p.m. on Christmas Eve to 9 a.m. on the first day of Christmas.
Arrests have been made in two of the cases.
– One of the cases that ended with arrest was a case of domestic violence where the son beat the father. The other was a report of a fight in a private home, and it ended with a case of violence against a public official. When the police arrived on the scene, one person became aggressive towards the police patrol, operations manager Gjermund Stokkli in the Oslo police district tells NTB.
No police officers have been injured in the case.
– Overall, it has been a quiet Christmas Eve and a night until the first day of Christmas for Oslo and Asker and Bærum, continues the operations manager.
