Considering that the municipality of Porsanger has just under 4,000 inhabitants and seven infected, infection control doctor Jørn Gregersen describes the situation as serious.

– We are at the top of the red level, he said during a press conference in the city of Porsanger on Saturday morning.

The latest case of infection was confirmed on Friday, October 23, and concerned an employee of Lakselv ungdomsskole.

The employee has been in close contact with several students and the entire ninth grade is now in quarantine. In total at the school there are now 40 in quarantine.

In the municipality of Hammerfest, another case of contagion has appeared in the last 24 hours. The infection rate here is now 30. Hammerfest hospital closed on Friday to admit new patients and sends everyone to other hospitals.

Now we will not visit

Jørn Gregersen said that the seven cases of infection in the municipality could probably be traced to Hammerfest, and then mainly to Hammerfest hospital.

– We are good friends with our neighbors at Hammerfest, but it may not be now that we visit our friends there. And maybe we should think about whether we should receive Hammerfest visitors now, Gregersen said.

Should protect the most vulnerable

He further said that everyone should take infection control very seriously. Keep your distance and keep the meter if possible – was the message.

– We may have thought we were on our way down, but now it’s worse than ever, Gregersen said.

He recalled that the measures are established for a reason.

– The measures are here to protect the sick who need care. The most vulnerable. Most of the others are doing well at this, but we have a job to do, Gregersen said.

The infection control doctor said the four who have been in the hospital with COVID-19 but have now returned home are in good shape under conditions. The same applies to the other three infected.

Lakselv ungdomsskole director Reidunn Hesjevik said the most important thing now, in addition to conducting infection screening, is ensuring that students receive education in the future.

– I understand that students, parents, and staff are concerned and over the weekend we will have mapped close contacts. We will also find out what offer the school will offer in the future. Here you have to follow by email and on the website of the municipality, said Hesjevik.

Police entered

Hammerfest Police have been deployed to help ensure infection control measures are being followed. Especially in the discos of the city.

The update from Tana Township is that there are 38 new negative responses on Saturday morning. None of them are positive.
