Seven eastern municipalities receive vaccines first

The case is being updated.

This was stated by Chief Physician Are Stuwitz Berg of the National Institute of Public Health at a news conference Tuesday morning.

The first delivery of vaccines of just under 10,000 doses to Norway will arrive on December 26. It is the same date that the other EU / EEA countries receive the vaccine. The next installment will be on December 28.

– Then there are just under 35,000 doses arriving in Norway this Christmas. Then we will have weekly deliveries of about 40,000 doses to Norway, says Stuwitz Berg.

More vaccination from week 1

Both the delivery, which arrives on December 28, as well as the other deliveries, will be distributed evenly according to population in various storage locations under the auspices of health trusts across the country. Because the vaccine is given in two doses a few weeks apart, only half of the vaccines are shipped at the same time, before the second dose is shipped a few weeks later.

– We plan to start with additional vaccination from week 1 for municipalities that are ready for it, and then we will deliver to all municipalities weekly for the vast majority, says Stuwitz Berg.

However, he emphasizes that there are several small municipalities in Norway, and that some of them will receive vaccinations at somewhat less frequent intervals because it is not appropriate for deliveries that are too small.

– This is a demanding job on many levels, and not least for the municipalities that will do the great job of vaccinating. The municipalities themselves should start vaccination when they are ready for it, says the superior.

He adds that the distribution chain is complex and that there are potential for delays.

– we are well prepared

The first vaccines in Sarpsborg will be administered on December 28, reports Sarpsborg Arbeiderblad.

– We are very happy to receive vaccines as one of the first municipalities. We are well prepared and we have good plans on how the vaccination will be carried out, says health director Ø claim Werner Johansen to the newspaper.

The vaccines in the municipality will be administered for three days: December 28, 29 and 30.

– Demanding

Birgitte Skauen Kopperud, department head of nursing homes in Fredrikstad, tells Fredriksstad Blad that it is unclear if they can start vaccination on December 28.

– We do not know if we can take them to the nursing homes the same day, it may not be until the 29th, he says.

Fredrikstad ordered 554 doses, while Hvaler ordered 24.

Municipal director Christl Kvam in Hamar tells Hamar Arbeiderblad that he is demanding to start vaccination this Christmas, but that they will be able to do so.
