Environment Councilor Lan Marie Berg (ODM) had to endure many critical questions from the opposition for his handling of the high number of crimes, and that has been going on for so long, without the opposition feeling sufficiently well informed in the road.
– Why from spring 2018 to fall 2019 have you withheld crucial information from the city council with a very high degree of severity? Eirik Lae Solberg (H) wanted to know during the hearing in Oslo on Friday.
Both councilors and directors of the Oslo municipality have explained themselves about the use of overtime and the numerous violations of the Work Environment Act after the NRK uncovered several hundred thousand crimes last fall.
Directors did not follow instruction
In 2012, the municipality received a package from the Norwegian Labor Inspection Authority for serious overtime violations. Then, the city council presented a detailed instruction to the entire municipality with mandatory routines for the control of working hours where the directors had to sign if they followed the instruction.
However, it has been shown that the crimes have continued unabated. So far up to 250,000 crimes have been registered.
According to Councilor Raymond Johansen (Labor Party), a third of agencies have not had routines, and many of the existing routines were first made last year or this year, but only a few have followed the City Council’s clear instructions.
She believes notified, investigated and informed
Among those who have had to give explanations are Councilor for the Environment and Transport Lan Marie Berg (ODM), former Councilor for the Elderly, Health and Labor Tone Tellevik Dahl (Labor Party), Councilor for Finance Einar Wilhelmsen (MDG) , former Finance Minister Eirik Lae Solberg (H), director of the recycling and waste management agency Hans Petter Karlsen and director of the nursing home agency Helge Jagmann.
– My duty is to inform the City Council correctly and sufficiently about important problems or deviations in my agencies. At the same time, we must ensure that alerts are handled correctly and carefully, and that potential violations are investigated without interruption. I definitely think I have done it in this case, said the ODM city councilor, according to Aftenposten.
– The city council department has tried to train a scandal
She denies having withheld information about the many crimes, as criticized by the chairman of the board, Kjersti Løken Stavrum, of the freedom of expression organization Norsk PEN.
– There is nothing to misunderstand here. The City Council department has tried to create a scandal, said Løken Stavrum, according to Nettavisen
FRP politician Lars Solås believes that the ODM city council has not followed up on crimes as a city council expected.
– Undoubtedly the city council is responsible for the agency and then it is serious that it does not follow them as expected by both the city council and the regulations, Solås believes.
