Just before 6 a.m. on Sunday morning, a person who has been confirmed dead made a new discovery. This is the fifth person found dead in the landslide area at Gjerdrum.

– We conducted searches throughout the night, based on the points of interest we had of the dog last night, says Fire Service Operations Manager Kenneth Vangen during a press conference at 9 a.m. Sunday.

The police work with identification and then notification to relatives. One of the dead has been confirmed to be among 10 missing after the rapid clay landslide.

Expand your search

During the press conference, Vangen says the search will expand with two teams further north in the area of the landslide.

– Now we are expanding into two sectors. One sector is a little further north of the area, but the pressure continues with the same weight in the same place, with three teams. Then we have two other teams that are to the north in another interesting place, where a dog has made marks, says Vangen.

During the night, the Civil Defense has drawn water from a dam that spills water in the area where the search is carried out.

– It will make it drier and safer for us down there, says Vangen.

The task leader says there is slightly less movement in the landslide area. Also, the wind conditions for the dogs are better now.

– The edge of the avalanche used to be completely straight, but it is starting to brown and stabilize. I want to emphasize that it is still a demanding and risky operation, he says.

– At the same time, the camp is hard as a rock in many places and therefore it is difficult to reach the places marked by the dogs.

The crew is primarily searching the building inventory, where there is hope of finding survivors.

– We look at where the dog marks, but basically where we are now is the construction material that comes in, says the task leader.
