According to CNN, Grassley was seen on Capitol Hill on Monday, where he is said to have spoken to the press. He is also said to have voted in the Senate on the same day.
On Monday, at least two other members of the House of Representatives announced that they had tested positive and another member claimed he was in isolation after possibly being exposed, the television station writes.
Grassley is the president’s “pro tempore” in the Senate, which means he heads the Senate in the absence of Vice President Mike Pence, the AP news agency writes.
Grassley is also the third person in a row to become president should something happen to the incumbent president. Grassley is, as mentioned, number three behind Vice President Pence and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi.
Tuesday was the first time in 27 years that Grassley was not present for a Senate vote. The last time it happened, Grassley was in his home state of Iowa to help clean up after a flood.
At 87, Grassley is the second-oldest senator, according to NBC News. He is also the longest-serving Republican senator.
