This happens after the Norwegian Confederation of Trade Unions and NHO Service og handel have reached an agreement.

In the end, 2,467 guards were on strike. At six in the morning on Friday, they are back at work.

– The strike has lasted a long time and has been a tension for all parties. We agreed with Parat a month ago, and now we are very happy to be able to announce an agreement with NAF and that the security strike is over, Executive Director Anne-Cecilie Kaltenborn at NHO Service og Handel tells E24.

– We have reached an agreement that we believe is acceptable, but which has been needed for a long time. It has become an expensive deal, he continues.

The union secretary, Terje Mikkelsen, says that the Norwegian Workers’ Union is very happy that the strike has ended.

– It has been tough for those who have been on strike for so long, they have shown a fantastic commitment. It is also good for the industry that we leave this behind, it is not good that the reputation of the industry is in conflict for so long, continues Mikkelsen, who believes that it would not be justifiable to continue the strike for much longer.

– The oil industry threatened to close the fields due to the security strike. Has the mandatory salary board worried you?

– No, the strike has not affected life or health. Of course, it will have major consequences when the oil and gas industry takes a hit, but we wait until the 10th week to lead people to strike in those areas. We haven’t heard anything about the Labor Ministry considering a mandatory salary board so far, and we didn’t see it as an immediate danger. But, of course, it has been an opportunity throughout, says the federal secretary.

Many were affected

The strike has had consequences far beyond the security industry.

– During the strike, we have received many inquiries from all kinds of industries. It has been unpleasant to know that the strike has created difficult situations for so many. In the future, we will work with Parat and NAF to make sure we don’t have a similar situation again, says Kaltenborn at NHO Service og Handel.

– The security industry was affected by the coronavirus from the beginning. There are still around 1,000 jobless security guards at airports, and in addition to all the missed events in areas like sports, culture and trade shows. The industry has been very affected and, in addition, it has had the strike, it continues.

The oil industry has also been affected, and they appreciate that the strike is over.

– We are very happy that the security strike is over, says communications manager Kolbjørn Andreassen at Norwegian Oil and Gas at E24.

– Has something been closed?

– Warehouse production has not shut down to the extent we feared, except for a short-term closure at the Nyhamna plant. The main consequences for production would only have occurred in a week or two. But now we let it go.

– But logistics in the oil and gas industry have faced great challenges due to the strike. So it is a great relief that it is now over, we envision great consequences if this had continued, Andreassen says.
