In the last two days there has been an increase of 727 notified cases, according to figures from the National Infectious Disease Notification System (MSIS).
The week is the second highest in a day so far during the pandemic. Only the day until Tuesday of this week had a greater increase, with 433 new cases.
Higher than March
In the last three days, all figures are above the previous peak of March 24, when 313 new cases were recorded in one day.
A week ago, the increase in one day was 192 reported cases.
On average, it takes one to two days from the time a test response is ready, until it is registered with MSIS. Tala can thus give a misleading picture of the infection situation in recent days, since it does not appear when samples are taken, only when they are recorded.
49 patients are hospitalized with covid-19 disease. On Wednesday 280 deaths were recorded as a result of the disease.
Also for zero municipalities
The government said new national crowning measures went into effect on Wednesday, including the advice not to have more than five guests and also an encouragement to reduce social interaction.
Health Minister Bent Høie requests that those who live in uncrowned municipalities also follow the rules.

On Wednesday, Health Minister Bent Høie also urged uninfected municipalities to follow the new rules.
– I understand those who think that it is strange not being able to have more than five guests at dinner in a municipality where not a single case of contagion has been registered in several months, said the Minister of Health.
– But the point is this: we have had 150 small and large shoots since August. We don’t know where the next one will come from. It can start at a dinner in a municipality where there has been no contagion for months, he continued.
