As Donald Trump continues his unfounded allegations of election fraud, the Republican leader in the Senate urges his colleagues not to protest the election result.
It would be more than five weeks since Joe Biden was declared the winner of the election as Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell did what many have thought was inevitable, and should have been done a long time ago;
He referred to Biden as the incoming president of the United States.
– Many millions of us expected the presidential elections to give a different result. But the electoral system has processes to decide who will be installed on January 20. The voters have spoken. “Today I want to congratulate incoming President Joe Biden,” McConnell said from the Senate rostrum Tuesday.

Soon after, the two spoke on the phone.
– I called him to thank him for the congratulations and I told him that although we do not agree on many things, there are things we can work on together. It was a good conversation, says Joe Biden, according to the New York Times.
Ask the senators not to protest
At the same time, McConnell in a telephone conversation with his Republican colleagues in the Senate, according to several US media, urged them not to protest when the votes of the 538 supposed voters are formally counted by Congress on January 6.

It does so because several Republicans in the House of Representatives, the other of the two houses of Congress, have indicated that they can protest. He also said he had not spoken to the president about McConnell congratulating Biden.
He retweeted that Republicans will be jailed.
Among other things, Trump on Tuesday retweeted a message from lawyer Lin Wood, who has worked for him, in which Wood writes that the governor and the attorney general, both Republicans, in the state of Georgia will soon end up in prison.
Georgia was one of the swing states that Biden won, and where the Republicans who rule the state have repeatedly rejected Trump’s claims of cheating and that he was the real winner.

In a speech in Atlanta, Biden emphasized the importance of winning both re-elections.
– You must give a record number of votes again. Yes, you still have to vote as if your life depends on it, because it does, he said.
Biden also made a clear contribution to Trump’s failed attempt to turn the tide of the state.
“I’m starting to feel like I’ve won Georgia three times,” he smiled.
